The Beaches of Block Island
Block Island is famous for the 17 miles of sandy beaches that surround this beautiful island. There are beaches on every side of the island, ranging from sand dunes to remote rocky beaches. Spend the day relaxing in your beach chair enjoying a gentle ocean breeze, build a sand castle with the kids, or boogie boarding in the ocean surf.
Crescent Beach is closest to town and features a 'Kid's Beach' area with sandy beaches and shallow water perfect for little people. Here they can search for sand dollars and crabs or just play in the sand.
Fred Benson Town Beach has both a bathhouse and a pavilion with a concession stand featuring a great selection of summer food as well as umbrellas, chairs and boogey boards for rent. Lifeguards are on duty at this beach as well as at Ballard's Beach on the south side of the island. Ballard's Beach is just behind Ballard's Restaurant, where wait staff serve drinks on the beach.
For the adventurous, there are many remote beaches accessible only by winding trails through rocky terrain. These remote beaches offer stunning ocean views of surf crashing against rocky shores. Find a remote beach and savor our gorgeous sunsets. Some of the less populated beaches are great fishing spots. Block Island beaches offer a perfect beach experience for all!
