With 17 miles of beach, two scenic harbors, the Atlantic Ocean and 365 freshwater ponds, Block Island is perfect for any type of water sports. Kayaking is available just one block from the Barrington Inn.
For the ultimate island experience, soar over Block Island attached to a parachute high above land and sea. Parasailing is safe and fun, and provides spectacular views as you are towed behind a boat by parachute. Enjoy an awe inspiring bird's eye view as you float aloft over sandy beaches and gentle surf. This unique experience is great fun for the entire family, offering solo or tandem rides.
Paddle around the Great Salt Pond and its connected tidal ponds and enjoy a relaxing view of Block Island by water. Enjoy scenic shoreline and wildlife from the stillness of your kayak floating on the gentle tide. For the more adventurous, kayak in the Old Harbor among the ferries and other boats. Kayaks are available by the hour or day on Block Island.
Swells on Block Island's east and south sides are coveted by surfers, especially below Mohegan Bluffs where conditions come together for great surfing. Vail Beach and Black Rock are popular surfing spots, although it's a short hike to reach either one. These remote areas are rocky with great swells ideal for surfing.
